Through a "writing in advertising" class I was able to develop a media kit, which is where this sample blog post is from.  The media kit was based on Red Bull's release of "The Editions," which included three new flavors of the drink. 

Giving the World More Than Just New Flavors

 

    One year ago a man pursued a dream, a dream of doing something bigger than himself and bringing about change in the world.  Mike Smith, a professional speaker, got a call one day with an offer for a generous amount of skateboarding ramps.  Of course as a passionate skateboarder, he accepted this offer and opened a nonprofit skate park in Lincoln, NE called Bay 198.   Ruminating on this and still pursuing his never-ending dream of change, Mike began to skateboard around Lincoln giving out food, socks, hygiene kits, etc. to the homeless of his city.  Then next time he did this his friend came with him, then the next time kids he knew from his skate park began to come.  One day 40 local skateboarders showed up and Mike knew he had begun something big and thus Skate for Change, his second nonprofit, was born.

 

    Mike attended a Red Bull event in Lincoln one day and from there went directly to Skate for Change.  The director of marketing who happened to be working that event saw Skate for Change occurring and stopped Mike to ask what they were doing, since a group of skateboarders roaming around the city handing out goods to the homeless is such an oxymoron.  

About a week after that conversation, Mike received a call from Red Bull saying that they were sending out Ryan Sheckler (one of the biggest names in skateboarding and a Red Bull athlete) to Lincoln in order to help get Skate for Change off the ground.  After the visit from Sheckler, videos were posted via social media outlets unleashing Skate for Change to the rest of the world and thus giving it instant popularity because of its new famous face.

 

    Skate for Change, in just one year went from one guy to thousands of participants simply because of Red Bull.  There is nothing better than being change in this world.  Red Bull is changing the world around them through helping others be change.

In March Red Bull will be changing their own world for others with the release of “The Editions.”  Three new flavors of blueberry (blue edition), lime (silver edition), and cranberry (red edition) will change fanatic’s lives forever.  We must accept change for differences of all kinds to be made.
